Midwest Energy, a customer-owned electric and natural gas cooperative serving 40 counties in central and western Kansas, recently awarded the Barton Arts Movement with an Impact Grant for $5,000 toward future art installations in 2022.
"Our committee was excited about funding this project, primarily because it gives us a chance to create even more momentum in all 4 of the major Barton County communities," says James Wright, Key Accounts and Member Services Manager for Midwest Energy. "We are hoping these installations will help promote togetherness and pride for our region, as well as prompting further awareness and action around the Barton Arts Movement." The Barton Arts Movement is a grassroots, volunteer-led initiative striving to create community pride through public art, and got its start in 2021. The group implemented five murals in its first year, with plans for a collage installation over the winter featuring photos sourced from the public, as well as more outdoor murals in 2022.
